Firstly, the hourly time-limit for setting karma has been removed.

You now have 'karma points' which you can 'spend' at will... Each time you modify someones karma, your karma points go down by 1.

If you disable your karma, when you re-enable it, your karma points go back to ZERO! (unless they were a negative figure before, in which case they stay that negative figure --- negative karma points are only possible if an admin sets them that way for you, as a way to disable your usage of karma)

Every night at midnight (UK local time -- i.e. BST or GMT) each user (who hasn't disabled their karma) has their karma points increased by 5, but to a top-limit of 20.

Each time someone gives you a postivive karma, you get half a karma point. If your karma points go over 20 this way, they will not be reset to 20 each night - they simply won't get any nightly points added.

I think this method is the best way of doing it - of course, the values (5, 20, one half) can all be tweaked if they turn out to be inappropriate -- FEEDBACK REQUIRED!

The reason you only get half a karma point for being given karma is to stop 2 people simply karmaing up each other... I.e. If you received one point or more, 2 people could continually go back and fore giving each other karma.. So this value needs to be less than one to stop this happening.

By the way (for admins) in the administration panel -> User Admin -> Management" section, I've added 3 more edittable fields:

Disable Karma
Karma Score
Karma Points.

So, admins can change someones karma status (even their own!) at will.. So I suspect that on the molehill, you'll see Cap'n Liz's karma points shoot to 1000, and her score change similarly Smile
